18 Jun KTM 790 Adventure R!
Since about 2009, I’ve sat around many campfires with other riders talking about how there’s no option for a 250+cc dual sport motorcycle. Then… After the 690 R release, KTM started crossing over their enduro lines to dual sport, the 350 EXC-F and 500 EXC-F. Then.. they answered the call to the big BMW GS bikes with their 1290, 1190 and now 1090. But they still had no answer to BMW’s F800GS line.
In comes Yamaha’s T7 prototype, announcing a 700cc dual sport motorcycle in the 400 – 450lb range.
“Created using the race-bred DNA that has made Yamaha one of the most successful names in the Rally world, the Yamaha T7 Concept is a fully functioning prototype developed to achieve a perfect balance between road and off road capability.
This lightweight machine is based on an all new chassis that has been designed to complement a specially developed version of Yamaha’s highly acclaimed 700cc CP2 engine, delivering strong torque and an easy power delivery for perfect traction in all conditions.”
Then… a couple weeks later, KTM announced their 790 Adventure R motorcycle weighing in around 373lbs.. who knows what it will weigh at release?! If they can keep it around 400lb or less, it’s a game changer! A hundred pounds lighter than the F800GSA, and fully adjustable WP suspension get’s my money any day over the F800GSA. Word on the street is it could be in the States by end of next year, 2019.
As for my F800GSA…. I guess my biggest complaint with the F800GSA is the suspension, and then pretty mild engine. It’s still a fantastic bike if you keep it out of the rough stuff, and it will travel around the world! But… a lighter, more power, better suspension bike available.. hhmm.. the F800GSA could be going bye-bye for some more Orange in the garage! We’ll just have to see… watch the video!
