THE STORY OF MARK “BIGDOG” SAMPSON

Adventure Legend

The term refers to narrative of human activities with some potential for physical danger, an exciting or unusual experience, bold; an unusual risky undertaking, with uncertain outcome. For the legend, no adventure is outside the realm of “possibility”, it becomes a major pursuit in and of itself, a means to an end. Or a new end to a new beginning.

Mark “BigDog” Sampson has nearly half a decade of riding dual-sport adventure motorcycles all across the country, where uncountable miles were turned and epic travels were had.

With adventures spanning from Mexico to Alaska and back, there truly isn’t another adventure rider that has the adventure tripometer that Mark has. Yeah, some have done long, around the world trips, but few have been riding for nearly 50 years and has owned just about every adventure motorcycle made.

If you’ve researched adventure riding or browsed threads on ADVrider forums, then you know who this legend of the sport is. Most who know BigDog will agree his biggest accolade is the time and effort he spends giving back to the adventure community. Every ride he does, he is dedicated to documenting via video and photos, ride reports, and comprehensive GPS routes, then posts them on his personal website, bigdogadventures.com.

I am fortunate enough to call Mark a good riding buddy and dear friend. He has taught me immeasurable amounts of knowledge when it comes to adventure riding. That being said, over the years I set out to capture a glimpse into the life of Mark “BigDog” Sampson.
