Sandman Case Saver Kit

Sandman Case Saver Kit

I know.. I know… I should of got this kit a LONG time ago!

Sandman Case Saver

Recently I switched my gearing to 14/50 and a longer 114L chain. With the 14T counter sprocket the OEM sprocket cover would not fit. So, finally, a definite reason to get Sandman’s Freedom Case Saver kit.

After ordering my mirror silver sparkle powder coated kit, I contacted Ivan on an ETA because I was leaving on a trip in just a few short days. He replied back and said he’d have it made and shipped out ASAP. And that he did! I ordered on Friday and received it that next Monday.. bam!

The first thing I noticed was the absolute detail Ivan puts into his product. The packaging was custom bubble wrapped… and a few little treats to boot! Once I got my hands on the aluminum… the attention to excellence and detail is very obvious. Listen, this isn’t just some guy bending metal in his car port.. no these case savers are a work of art! And with a perfect fit….

My WR250R case shows no wear on the it with the OEM case saver.. but maybe I just got lucky. After seeing Ivan’s kit I don’t see how the OEM cover would hold up if a rock when shooting through.. with the Freedom Case Saver all worry is gone! If you own a WR250R/X… simply GET THIS KIT!!!

Here’s the link to order yours. Thanks Sandman!

I went ahead and bought this thing after reading this article! Im curious though, the guy I bought my WR from put a 12T on the countershaft. I’ve read on Big Dogs blog that thats not such a good idea. What benefit is there by bumping the stock 13 up to a 14, and adding a few on the back? Thanks!

Derek… The reason is the 12T rubs the swingarm pretty bad & you wil go through swingarm guides. If you don’t keep an eye out the chain will grind your swingarm very bad! I’ve seen guys that put the 12T on & never think about it… then they finally check & it’s grinded grooves in their swingarm… Bad!

I’m still running my factory swingarm guide and attribute it to my sprocket/chain tension all these years! Hope this helps…. I’d pull the 12T off & go 13 or 14 in front to save your swingarm.

Hey there, so I just put on a 14/50 setup with a new chain. But I’m concerned because with the Sandman case saver I put on as well, the chain seems to be grinding on the case saver. Did you have this issue with your setup? Not a big fan of that noise…. haha. Thanks!

Derek… yes, mine rubbed too.. but seemed to fix it’s self rather quickly… For me, this isn’t an issue because a chain is a wear item, as is a case saver, it rubbed for a bit but then quieted down. What is NOT a “wear” item is my swingarm, so for me the chain is no issue if it rubs or squares off a bit. Every dirt bike I’ve ever ridden trashed the chains.. But yes the noise is there for a bit.. But with my ear plugs in I never notice it 🙂

Ah ok cool, that makes me feel better haha. How about chain tension with the bigger sprockets? Much different than the clearance Yamaha wants you have with the stock gear?

For chain tension… some guys like more slop others don’t… I have had luck with the three finger technique.. haha! I guess I’ve gotten a knack for what is good and bad tension because all the technical docs are all different!
