Heed Crashbars
For years, my buddy and I sit around the campfire discussing motorcycles, and like many others have asked, is there that “one” bike when it comes to adventure riding? Well, we’ve come to the conclusion there just isn’t, truly. Having a small light-weight adventure bike like my WR250R opens up routes you can simply enjoy and never look back. Like some of the rough stuff on the UTBDR or COBDR. Yes, you can ride a big bike on these routes, but it’s just not the same experience as on a smaller dual sport bike. So, that means there’s another bike to compliment the light-weight adv bike… and for me, it’s the F800GSA! Because I always have the need to buzz down the highway, commute to work, 2up with my beautiful wife, all of which may take me off-road.. so this bike fits the need and then some.
Being the first year for this bike, the 2014 F800GS Adventure has options that, in previous years, were only available on the big 1200GSA. BMW added a larger gas tank (6.3 gal) to the F800GSA which is a huge deal for any adventure bike. A larger windshield and radiator shrouds help with wind protection and overall balance of the bike. I’ve read they also made the stock seat much better, and I have to say it is very very good! Other upgrades are crash bars and saddlebag mounts, wide footpegs, adjustable brake pedal and hand guards, and the rear rack is pretty sweet.
So after reading and researching, my wife and I went up to Gateway BMW one afternoon and I took a ride on their demo bike. What I immediately noticed was how well the bike is balanced.. it just glides on a rail no matter what or how you are riding. It’s very smooth transmission and engine just made me smile from ear to ear.. I fell hard for it!
The salesman who came out to chat with me was Mr. Tom Huff, and come to find out he’s been a long-time friend of my buddy BigDog.. so we hit it right off. He was very honest with me and filled my head with years of knowledge when it comes to riding and the F800GSA, he has the same one himself. That means a lot to talk with salesman who ride the way the bike is designed to. I was highly impressed with everyone down at Gateway and have made new friends. Can’t wait to meet up out on the trail…. thanks Tom!
Come on.. let’s go home….. Fate
